The scheme provides defined benefits on a Career Revalued Benefits basis for all members, known as the USS Income Builder, with an additional defined contribution section referred to as the USS Investment Builder.

The USS is only available to existing members.

Can I join a different University pension scheme?

As a USS member you have the right to Withdraw from the scheme and join the Teachers’ Pension or Local Government Pension Scheme, subject to your role and date of joining the university, or the alternative UCRSS.  

We would strongly urge you to carefully consider the information available on the websites of the pension scheme in respect of exiting and joining. Where appropriate you may also wish to seek independent financial advice.
