Leadership and Management Apprenticeships
Research by the Chartered Management Institute has linked poor management practices with poor financial performance, while good management can improve morale, retention and engagement amongst your staff. For existing and aspiring leaders at all levels, an apprenticeship course in leadership and management is an effective development tool to help you reach the top of your game.
Levels available: 3, 5, Degree and Masters Degree
Duration: 1 – 3 years
Chartered Manager Degree Apprenticeship
Suitable for early career managers with a commitment to a professional management career, this degree apprenticeship is delivered flexibly by the Work-Based Distance Learning team within the Lincoln International Business School here at the University of Lincoln. Typically lasting around 3 years, upon successful completion the staff member will be awarded an industry-designed apprenticeship qualification, a BA (Hons) Professional Practice Leadership and Management, CMI Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management and Chartered Manager status (CMgr MCMI).
Operations / Departmental Manager
Suitable for those who manage teams or projects to achieve operational or departmental goals, this level 5 apprenticeship is equivalent to a Foundation Degree. Typically lasting 2-3 years, this course is delivered using a variety of flexible online and face-to-face teaching methods and covers a range of skills and behaviours including operational, financial and project management. Upon successful completion, the apprentice will be eligible to register as full members of the Chartered Management Institute and/ or the Institute of Leadership & Management. Those with three years or more of management experience will be eligible to apply for Chartered Manager status.
Team Leader / Supervisor
Team Leader Level 3 Apprenticeship Offer
Team Leader Level 3 (Duration 12 to 18 months)
Provided by: National Centre for Food Manufacturing (University of Lincoln)
Suitable for those in a first line management role with operational and or project responsibilities, this level 3 (an A-Level equivalent) apprenticeship delivered by the National Centre for Food Manufacturing, a school within the College of Science, covers a wide range of skills and behaviours.
With units which include:
- operational and project management
- finance and budget monitoring
- leadership
Completing this apprenticeship (which typically lasts 12-18 months) makes the apprentice eligible for Associate Membership of the Institute of Leadership and Management.

This is designed for practising managers, to help them develop their skills and experience, improve productivity, and prepare them for senior management responsibilities including:

Level 4 Associate Project Manager
Lasting around 24 months, this apprenticeship is for those working on projects, large or small, requiring planning, leadership, stakeholder management, communication and organisational skills and experience. This apprenticeship also includes an Association for Project Management (APM) qualification.
Project Manager Degree Apprenticeship
This programme typically lasts around 48 months, and provides support to develop the skills, knowledge and behaviours to provide effective end-to-end delivery of complex projects. Successful completion of the programme also offers either a BA or BSc Honours Degree in Project Management, and entitles the apprentice to become a full member of the Chartered Body the Association for Project Management (APM).
