Taking Care of Your Back
‘Taking Care of Your Back’ is a short, six week course aimed at staff with back problems and musculo-skeletal pain or discomfort.
One of the most commonly reported reasons for absence is back problems and musculo-skeletal pain or discomfort. Yet according to the NHS, “Most cases of back pain aren’t caused by serious damage or disease but by minor sprains, strains or injuries, or a pinched or irritated nerve. These types of back pain can be triggered by everyday activities at home or at work, or they can develop gradually over time.”
Everyday activities such as bending, lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, slouching, twisting, over-stretching, driving, sitting in a hunched position, or simply overusing muscles. Unfortunately, these common habits of movement become unconscious and ingrained and so people are often unaware that they can do anything for themselves about them.
This course provides information, instruction and practice to begin making small changes that can have significant effects upon the experience of tension, discomfort, posture and movement.
It is available by referral only so please contact your Line Manager or PPC Business Partner if you are interested in the course.
