EU Settlement Scheme – Closes for Applications 30th June
Applications to the EU Settlement Scheme (EUSS) close on 30 June 2021. Until this point if you are an EU, EEA or Swiss citizen (EU National), resident in the UK by 31 December 2020, you and your family members (including non-EU citizens) can still apply to the EU Settlement Scheme to continue to live, work and study in the UK beyond 30 June 2021, if you have not already done so.
Earlier this month the University hosted a webinar facilitated by PWC for colleagues seeking advice/support in respect of their UK immigration position and the EU Settlement Scheme.

- The EU Settlement Scheme is a free scheme which enables EU Nationals resident in the UK by the end of the transition period, and their family members, to obtain the status they will require to continue to live and work in the UK.
- Applicants will need to complete three key steps – prove their identity, show that that they live in the UK, and declare any criminal convictions.
Even if you have lived and worked in the UK for many years or have a permanent residence document, you still need to apply to retain your rights.
EU Settlement Scheme – Pre-Settled Status and Continuous Residency
On 10 June 2021 the Home Office reissued its guidance on coronavirus and the EU Settlement Scheme. The new version allows for individuals with EU pre-settled status to be out of the UK for up to 12 months for “any coronavirus related reason” without breaking their continuous residence. This includes where individuals remain abroad by choice. Previously, the guidance only really catered for situations where individuals were forced to remain outside of the UK due to travel restrictions, quarantine or COVID-19 related health complications.
