EU Settlement Scheme 12/03/21

MARCH 2021

EU Settlement Scheme

Colleagues may be aware that we are currently in the ‘grace period’ following the UK’s departure from the EU. During which time if you are an EU/EEA or Swiss citizen, resident in the UK by 31 December 2020, you and your family members (including non-EU citizens) can still apply to the EU Settlement Scheme to continue to live, work and study in the UK beyond 30 June 2021, if you have not already done so. For further information please see the Gov.uk guidance leaflet, Right to Work calculator and to apply to the Settlement scheme see EU Settlement Scheme.

Even if you have lived in the UK for many years or you have a permanent residence document, you still need to apply. However, you do not need to apply if you have indefinite leave to remain or enter, or you are an Irish citizen, but you can do so if you wish.

The HR webpage contains further information and highlights support available.

Please Note: there is currently an emerging theme across the sector that colleagues who remain outside of the UK due to the Pandemic may impact their ‘continuous qualifying period of residence’ for applications in respect of settled/pre-settled status or to transfer from pre-settled to settled status. For government guidance on continuous qualifying periods of residence see: here.
